The eCruise, Acadia National Parkâs virtual tour of the islands and waters off the coast of Mount Desert Island, won a first place media award in the multi-media category at the National Association for Interpretation (NAI) annual conference held in Portland, Oregon, last month. NAI is a not-for-profit professional organization for individuals working in the interpretation of natural and cultural resources in settings such as parks, museums, nature centers, and historical sites.
The eCruise includes the sights and sounds of coastal Maine. Participants can tailor their experience by choosing from a variety of mediaâaudio, video, text, panoramic images, maps, and photographs.
"We hope the eCruise is an enticement for visitors," said Superintendent Sheridan Steele. "It's not intended to serve as a replacement for a visit to the park, but rather as a way to get them excited about coming to Acadia."
The eCruise was developed through a cooperative effort by staff from Acadia National Park, GlacierNational Park, and the Northeast Region's Interpretation and Education Office.
