“Dancing Rangers” Debut In Late Summer Parades

Agate Fossil Beds National Monument

National Park News

Looking back on August’s state and county fairs and their associated parades, Agate Fossil Beds National Monument will remember well the debut of the “Dancing Rangers.”

For local parades in its two gateway communities, with themes of “Life’s a Dance” and “Come Join the Fun,” it was decided to depart from traditional floats and fire trucks and try something new. Utilizing the choreography skills of seasonal ranger Maribeth Kambitsch, who in her earlier life was a professional dancer, staff practiced and then performed a routine to the tune of “Park Ranger” by singer Raldo Schneider & the Swaybacks, to the delight of viewers and participants alike.

Pictured are Sam Fisher, Lil Mansfield, Anne Wilson, Mark Hertig, and Maribeth Kambitsch at the point in the song of “… and get up in the morning and do it (rangering) again …”  Absent is Blanca Stransky, who sashayed at an earlier parade.
