Long term Chair of the Friends of Edison NHS Michael McDonough attended his last Board meeting with the group on July 17. McDonough chaired the organization from 1992 and saw it through many changes as the Site developed and its partnerships grew more sophisticated. An innovator in special events, Mike began the Friends Golf Tournament, a âTaste of West Orangeâ fundraising event, brought the Newark Boys Choir to the Edison home at Christmas to perform and last Fall staged âThe Cars and Cigars of Thomas Edisonâ in an effort to attract attention for the Site. The past year he was instrumental in setting up an Internship at the Site with a student from the new Museum Studies Program at Montclair State University, a nearby school. In the Spring, Mike will be a key player in a symposium about the Siteâs recent rehabilitation at the University. He will be sorely missed. At a reception honoring him after the Board meeting, Friends members and NPS staff presented him with a new set of golf clubs.
