Ranger Jeffrey "Suss" Sussman raises the flag at the Wonder Lake Ranger Station for the first time this season as the area prepares for summer visitors. Buses began running as far as Wonder Lake on Saturday.
The ranger station, built by the CCC in 1939, provides housing to seasonal rangers and interpreters from mid-May until mid-September.
During the winter, the building provides warm, comfortable shelter for kennels’ staff and others who access the park's wilderness via dog sled.
During summer, the reward for enduring the high amount of mosquito activity the area is known for are the spectacular views of Mt. McKinley and Wonder Lake.
