On August 25th, in a ceremony attended by about 60 people, Colorado State University took possession of an “NPS Employees Library" – a collection of over 3,000 books and pamphlets (with additional miscellaneous professional papers) on the National Park Service from across its history. The library was donated to the university archives.
The core collection began with Ken Mabery and the late Bill Supernaugh's career-long collections, subsequently augmented by contributions from 25 other donors. Word was circulated through the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees and the Association of National Park Rangers to locate donors. Ken Mabery and three NPS retirees attended the brief ceremony.
Linda Meyer, CSU's archivist, hopes to hold a more formal ceremony next spring, and will be sending out formal invitations to all donors.
The library is an "open" collection, meaning that former and current NPS employees are welcome to add their archives to the collection at any time. Interested persons can contact Ken Mabery at Ken_Mabery@nps.gov or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
