Elwha Restoration Celebrated On First Anniversary

A year ago this week, a ceremony was held at the Elwha Dam to mark the start of a project to remove two dams from the Elwha River and restore the stream to its natural course and configuration.

One year later, the Elwha Dam is gone, more than 60% of the Glines Canyon Dam is gone, vegetation is growing in sediments once covered by Lake Aldwell and Lake Mills, and salmon have spawned in waters upstream of the former Elwha Dam.
