An interdisciplinary team pulled together so that Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park staff could showcase electric transportation technology in the annual “Parade of Lights” hosted by Montrose, Colorado.
One of the park's electric cars, made by e-Ride Industries, in Princeton, Minnesota, was made to look like a wind-up toy.
A storm moving through the state that morning complicated transportation on open highways, but the combination of employees made the effort possible.
Park staff walked the 1.5 mile parade route flanking the car and greeted thousands of people who braved the 20 degree temperatures. Adults and children alike were intrigued by the unique nature of the car and by how quiet it was (in contrast to some of the diesel entries). Children were intrigued by the size and operation of the car, with many exclaiming that it was a toy truck.
The park has sought ways to show case the car as alternative means of transportation, but none have been as successful as this parade.
