2008-05-01 Washington Monument Forget about going up it unless you reserve months in advance.
2007-12-14 Big Bend National Park Awesome park! Avoid spring break and Christmas break though.
2005-06-25 Agate Fossil Beds National Monument Totally out in the middle of nowhere, but it's pretty interesting. Lots of fossils and a modern day homestead. Take the ranger hike up to the buttes.
2005-06-25 Fort Laramie National Historic Site Huge fort. There was a lot going on - many people were walking around in costume and acting out characters.
2005-06-24 Scotts Bluff National Monument Pretty scenic landscape. Some interesting cultural artifacts (like Conestoga wagons) at the visitor center. Great views from atop the bluff.
2005-06-16 Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site Pretty cool little fort. The tour is great - the guide re-enacted various jobs.
2005-06-15 Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve The dunes are dramatic, as can be the weather. The climb up to the top takes longer, and is more strenuous, than expected.
2005-06-04 Capitol Reef National Park Lot more to see and do than expected - many hikes available. The main canyon has some impressive views, but only from the valley floor (from cars). The drive out toward Glen Canyon is long and traverses primitive land. The orchards, farm houses, a...
2005-06-04 Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Huge. Camping at Halls Camping overlooking Lake Powell was great. The ferry ride across is cool. Bull Frog is overrun with boats. Hite is a remote and desolate place - the lake has receeded far out. But the drive to the northwest of Hite is very s...
2005-06-03 Natural Bridges National Monument Pretty cool smaller park. The trips down to the bridges and back up are real workouts!
2005-06-02 Canyonlands National Park Huge park - took two days exploring, and didn't even get to the Maze District or Horseshoe Canyon. Camping just outside of the Needles District was great!
2005-06-01 Arches National Park Spent two days checking out Arches. The second day was sooo hot. The Primitive Trail in the Devils Garden is a killer.
2004-07-04 Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park Long, steep, gray. Cool rock patterns in the walls. Dangling your feet over the sheer, unprotected edge thousands of feet deep induces vertigo! The hike out the the western end is okay. The drive down to the bottom is cool, but steep and long - be...
2004-07-04 Curecanti National Recreation Area Long lake.
2004-07-03 Colorado National Monument H-O-T! Cool views.
2004-06-13 Rocky Mountain National Park Tourons are annoying.
2004-06-03 Lassen Volcanic National Park Alright. Scenic alpine mountains. Lots of snow. Not much volcanic stuff to look at - most probably buried under snow. Except the Sulfer area. Pretty cool, and smelly.
2004-06-03 Lava Beds National Monument Wild. Crazy. Two aspects - lava formations and the history related to the Captain Jack battle. Bunch of lava tubes - totally open - descend the steps and get lost!
2004-06-02 Crater Lake National Park Surreal. The crater is huge, with very steep sides. Only a small part of the ring road was open, on the south by the lodge and the visitor center; still many, many feet of snow. The sides are steep, treacherous, snow-covered slides! The lodge has ...
2004-06-01 Muir Woods National Monument Cool
2004-06-01 Point Reyes National Seashore Remote, windy, fault, surreal.
2004-06-01 Golden Gate National Recreation Area Lots to see.
2004-03-12 Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park Civil war...
2004-03-04 Everglades National Park Pretty cool...
2004-03-04 Canaveral National Seashore Nice. Armadillos!
